Audiobook Production
How we work
We have a sophisticated studio set-up which enables us to create flawless audiobooks, with zero background noise, and with technical standards which exceed those required for Amazon’s Audible sales platform (the world’s leading audiobook marketplace).
We begin by studying the book carefully and understanding the characterisation, tone and plot. We employ experienced male and female narrators as required to bring your book to life. We aim to keep the listener enthralled, and give your words exactly the right tone for the story and for all points therein.
The process in more detail…
We use Amazon’s ACX platform for our productions. With this, if we take on your book, we are rewarded on a royalty basis.
Unlike for any of the other services offered by our company, with audiobook production you pay us nothing up front, or at any other time.
In ACX contracts, Amazon takes 60% of any sales revenue. The author takes 20%, and the producer receives the remaining 20% (it typically takes about five hours’ studio work to record a single hour of finished audio).
Your book goes through three rounds of proof-listening, and we note down any typos we might find and feed them all back to you as part of the work. This way, your manuscript is effectively proofread as well.
As part of the ACX workflow, you have the authority to check and accept or reject our initial 15 minute checkpoint file. You can then request any edits or retakes once the entire book has been narrated (though we’ve never had any requested yet!).
Please note: If you are a publishing house and prefer to work in another way, we’re happy to accommodate that.
We provide original music and sound effects, too…
Since we offer music composition and production services, we can also add appropriate music to your audiobook production.
We usually either use royalty-free existing music (thereby costing you nothing) or we compose and produce original music for the title. We do whatever is most appropriate for the book in question, in discussion with you.
Music is usually only added for the opening and closing titles of a book, or at the beginning of chapters, but it can really add to the sense of atmosphere, and it completes the entirely professional impression that your audiobook will create.
In summary
As with our book and ebook publishing services, you write the book, and we’ll do the rest. We see our job as being to represent your words as well as possible, to bring your book to life, and to maximise your potential for sales across all media.
